Chandrababu Naidu agrees to host Asian Athletics in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: At the request of president of Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and IAFF council member Adille J. Suma-riwalla, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu agreed to host the Asian Athletic Championship (AAC)-2017 in Vizag city.
ACC is the qualifying event for the World Athletics Championship-2017 to be held in London and AAC will be a host to around 45 Asian countries. During the medal distribution ceremony on the first day of Shriram Properties 13th Natio-nal Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet (NID-JAM) at Visakhapatnam Port Trust’s Diamond Jubilee Outdoor Stadium in the city on Saturday, Mr Sumari-walla asked Mr Naidu to host the AAC-2017 in Vizag.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naidu said that Andhra Pradesh has hosted Afro-Asian Games-2003 and 32nd National Games in a grand manner. But, the Congress has dent the India’s image during the Commonwealth Games-2010 by hosting it in a worst manner. No doubt, India and Andhra Pradesh to host international sporting events and Vizag city will be developed as sports capital of AP by creating more sporting infrastructure in the coming years, Mr Naidu added.
Addressing the athletes and coaches from 323 districts, Mr Naidu said the main reason for conducting NID-JAM in India is to showcase that AP can conduct such events without any hassle. Mr Naidu said that his dream is to conduct Olympics in Andhra Pradesh and the capital city of Amaravati will be constructed in such a manner that it can host international events. Presenting Gold medal to the winner in the Long Jump (Boys Under-14) M Venkatesh of Telangana state, Mr Naidu said that he is very happy to present the medal to Telangana boy.
