Chennai: Electrician held in AIADMK functionary murder case
Vinayakam is also an AIADMK functionary and is a member of the MGR peravai
Chennai: A 40-year-old electrician was on Saturday arrested in connection with the murder of an AIADMK functionary Kottaisamy at Red Hills last Sunday. The accused, Nagaraj, is a resident of the same area and was picked up from his hideout by a special team, police said.
With Nagaraj’s arrest, the total number of those held in connection with the murder has increased to 11. Kottaisamy, a former president of Nalloor panchayat, and joint secretary of Amma peravai, Sholavaram unit, was a resident of Solaiyamman Nagar 8thstreet. He was drinking with his friends when he was hacked to death by a gang.
A day after the murder, police arrested six persons including Nalloor Panchayat president, Vinayagam (40), who was angered over Kottaisamy’s clout in the locality. Further, he was also not happy with Kottaisamy flourishing in real estate business, the police said.
Vinayakam is also an AIADMK functionary and is a member of the MGR peravai. “We have arrested 11 out of the 15 suspects so far," a senior police officer said.
