Eerie photos of deserted Chinese amusement parks are both creepy and serene
Italian photographer Stefano Cerio has travelled all over China – from Happy Valley to Amazing World and Treasure Island Pirate Kingdom – to catch pleasure playgrounds in the off season. (Photo Credit: Stefano Cerio)- While photographers are mostly tempted to capture luridly colourful, concrete and plastic forms; for Stefano Cerio, the empty spaces were much more interesting.
- The pictures depict a very different side of Chinese amusement parks. Gone are the happy masses and queues. People park in Shanghai is captured devoid of a single person.
- This is the Polar Ocean Park in Qingdao, which is an empty theater at a beachside amusement park. Cerio scouted promising locations with the help of Google Earth.
- Happy Valley Shanghai seen out of season, perhaps a place that usually offers escape from everyday life - appears strange and even senseless.
- Shanghai Happy Valley is a theme park that spans 213 acres and is roughly an hour's drive from Shanghai.
- This rollercoaster found at the Xiedao Holiday Village theme park has an eerie backdrop against the surrounding residential blocks.
- Summer paddle boats are huddled up together forming a small island in the middle of the lake. Cerio captures the Tuanjiehu Park in Beijing suspended in time and space.

- He traveled to cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao and Hong Kong. Cerio has captured the moments in-between the madness as the parks lay dormant. Shinjing Park in Beijing opened in mid-80s came under fire in 2007 for copyright violations.
