'The Danish Girl' gets standing ovation in Venice premiere
Los Angeles: Academy-award winning actor Eddie Redmayne starrer ‘The Danish Girl’ got a standing ovation of nearly 10-minute after its premiere at the 72nd Venice Film Festival, Italy.
The period transgender drama, directed by Tom Hooper, wowed the audience and received the standing ovation in the Sala Grande, not a common happenstance for a film, reported Deadline.
The 33-year-old "The Theory of Everything" star plays Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of gender reassignment surgery in the film and called his role "a dream come true."
Based on the 2000 novel of the same name by David Ebershoff, "The Danish Girl" also stars Alicia Vikander, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ben Whishaw and Amber Heard. The film will have a wider release on November 27.
