It’s free for all frisbee
The third edition of the frisbee tournament, Usha Hyderabad Ultimate Open, kickstarted in the city on Friday. Sixteen teams comprising nearly 300 players from around India are part of the event. From 70 players in 2013 to 300 participants in 2015, the sport has been adding several players and teams every season.
“It is a HAT tournament. We form teams based on the skills of players. Each team will have beginners and advance level players, so the beginners will get to learn from the seniors and the teams will have a balance. Also, players can experiment with different roles, instead of what they have been assigned at their respective clubs,” says Om Prakash, member of city-based frisbee team, Discotech, started by Microsoft employees.
Hyderabad Ultimate was started by Srinath Reddy and Girish Pramani to encourage frisbee in the city. Sridhar C.H., who started Hyflyers, another city frisbee team, adds, “This game doesn’t have a gender barrier. It also doesn’t have a referee, so the players resolve every issue among themselves. You can see the spirit of the game among the players.” The players from Hyderabad are now planning to approach various colleges and schools to encourage students to take up the sport and promote it in the city.
