Woman delivers girl child in police van
New Delhi: A woman on Saturday delivered her baby in a police van here with a cop assisting her while she was being rushed to the hospital for delivery.
At around 10.30 am a man called up the police control room and reported that his wife had developed labour pain and he has nobody to seek help from, said a senior police officer.
A police team rushed to the spot - near the railway station at southwest Delhi's Palam - where the woman lived, put her in the police van and headed towards Shri Dada Dev Matri Avum Shishu Chikitsalaya.
However, the woman's water broke while she was in the police van and the first child was delivered in the van.
Woman constable, Bhagwati, who was deputed in the van, assisted her in the process, said the officer.
It was constable Dharamveer, who drove the vehicle amid the morning traffic and Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajbir who led the PCR team involved in the operation.
Soon after the woman was admitted at the hospital, the authorities informed that she was expecting another child and soon she gave birth to another girl, said the officer.
The woman and her husband work as labourers and live at a shanty near the Palam railway station.
Both the woman and her daughters are reported to be safe. The PCR team shall also be rewarded for the excellent work, the officer added.
