Telangana: Hyderabad High Court okays deletion of 26 castes from BC list
Nearly 10 per cent of students in Telangana are likely to be hit with the deletion of 26 castes
Hyderabad: A division bench comprising Justice R. Subhash Reddy and Justice A. Shankar Narayana of the Hyderabad High Court on Friday upheld the action of the Telangana state government in deleting 26 castes from the list of Backward Classes.
The bench was dismissing a batch of petitions moved by several students and parents challenging the deletion of 26 castes, including Kalinga, Turpu Kapu, Gavara, Settibalija, Nagavaddilu and other castes, from the list through GO Ms No. 3 and 16 on the ground of non-existence of those castes in Telangana state.
The petitioners claimed that the state government had unilaterally taken the decision to delete 26 castes without the recommendation of the BC Commission.
