Telangana government to introduce new excise policy
The department is considering the proposal to renew the licenses of existing shops
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government is likely to come out with a new excise policy in a day or two. With the government reversing its decision on introducing cheap liquor, the department is focusing on licence fees and approvals to grant liquor shops for this year. However, the number of liquor shops and the licence fee are likely to remain the same.
The department is considering the proposal to renew the licenses of existing shops instead of issuing a fresh notification inviting bids. Excise minister T. Padma Rao Goud on Friday held a meeting with officials to discuss on these issues.
It was proposed to extend the licence period of existing liquor shops for nine-month period from October 2015 to June 2016 before coming with a fresh excise policy for next year from July 2016 to June 2017. The existing licence fee would be calculated for cities and mandals separately for nine-month period and new shops would be allotted only in those places where the existing shop owners fail to pay the licence fee.
