Supreme Court impleads Maharashtra government in Shobha case
In this case instead of replying to notice the petitioner rushed to the court and got the proceedings stayed
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday impleaded the Maharashtra government in writer and columnist Shobha De’s ‘tweet case’ and granted time to respond to the petition challenging the privilege motion initiated by the Maharashtra Assembly against her.
In its application the Maharashtra government said chairmen of Privileges committees of the Assembly and legislative council are not supposed to accept court notices on petitions relating to proceedings of the House. In this case instead of replying to notice the petitioner rushed to the court and got the proceedings stayed.
The columnist had tweeted, “Bollywood divided over compulsory prime time screening of Marathi films in multiplexes”; “no more pop corn at multiplexes in Mumbai, Dahi missal and vada pav only....”; “Devendra ‘Diktatwala’ Fadnavis is at it again!!! “
