Principal suspended for strip-searching students in Mandya

Action taken against principal following protests by parents

Mandya: A school principal in Mandya district of Karnataka was suspended for strip-searching 12 girls in a classroom after one of the students lost Rs 100.

"On the complaint of students, we initiated action and visited the school. We have interacted with students and teachers as well. The enquiry is on and if the said teacher is proved guilty, legal action will be taken against her," Karnataka State Commission chairperson Manjula Manasa said.

According to reports, the incident took place on August 31, when one of the 29 students of the class found that her money was missing.

The girl told her classmates that she had lost Rs 100 and asked them about it.

The principal went to the class and questioned the students, but when no girl owned up, she asked the students to close the doors and windows.

She then began to frisk the girls individually, but failed to recover the money. The Principal then ordered the students to strip to look for the money.

The parents of the students had staged a protest against the principal, demanding strict action against her, after the incident came to light.
