Pakistan asks UNSC to take note of 'provocative' actions along LoC

It raised the issue of ceasefire violations by India at the highest levels of the United Nations

Washington: Pakistan has once again knocked the doors of the UN Security Council, urging it to take note of "provocative" actions along the Line of Control and make India "exercise restraint".

In a letter to President of the Council for the month, Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN Maleeha Lodhi referred to the "provocative" Indian actions along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and the Working Boundary and urged the Council to ask India to "abide" by" the 2003 ceasefire arrangement.

According to a statement by the Permanent Mission of Pakistan here, Lodhi raised the issue of ceasefire violations by India at the highest levels of the United Nations.

In the letter, she gave details of the alleged breaches of ceasefire and pointed out that there had been a spike in such violence in the last couple of months resulting in several civilian casualties and injuries to many more.

India has repeatedly rejected such claims and cited 55 violations of the border ceasefire agreement by Pakistan in August and over 245 ceasefire violations during the year so far.

Pakistan has been raising the issue of violations by India along the LoC at the UN with top officials in the Departments of Political Affairs and Peacekeeping Operations over the past several weeks, the statement said.
