One Rank One Pension in 48 hours: RSS-approved Centre version by Monday

New Delhi: There are indications that the Centre may unilaterally announce grant of the government’s version of the “One-Rank-One-Pension” scheme, perhaps by Monday, despite objections by ex-servicemen on some provisions, with BJP president Amit Shah declaring Friday that the government would soon implement the scheme.

The Centre is keen to announce this before the model code of conduct is in force ahead of the Bihar elections.

A PTI report said a draft OROP proposal, circulated at the RSS coordination meeting, envisaged commencement of the scheme from July 2014, besides pension revisions every five years.

The periodicity of revision has become the bone of contention, with the government keen on five years, while veterans insist it could at most be two years.
