M Karunanidhi's statement referred to privileges committee

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu state Assembly on Friday referred to its Privileges Committee a statement made by DMK president M. Karunanidhi with remarks apparently not made by state housing minister R. Vaithilingam on the floor of the Assembly.

Speaker P. Dhanapal said that Mr Karunanidhi had made a statement on August 30 with remarks that he claimed housing minister R. Vaithilingam made on the Assembly floor recently and which were published in Murasoli and another evening newspaper.

“Minister Vaithilingam has not made any such remarks as claimed by Mr Karunanidhi and therefore there is prima facie breach of privilege in this issue,” he said and referred the DMK president Karunandihi’s statement to the Privileges Committee.
