600km, medal after months
A 600-kilometre brevet ride was flagged off on Saturday at 4 pm from St Martin’s Engineering College, Dulapally; 29 participants will cover 600 km in 40 hours. The riders will have to report at or before 8 am on Monday at the same venue.
The ride is being organised by Hyderabad Randonneurs, in association with Audex India Randonneurs and is recognised by Audax Club Parisien, a cycling club based out of France which administers randonneuring (endurance riding over 200 km) that happens worldwide.
“This is the fifth edition of the 600-km brevet ride and is the last ride for this season. There are 29 people participating, which is the largest number we have ever had for a 600-km ride. We are riding towards Kamareddy via Nagpur highway and will be covering Nirmal, Dharmapuri, Sircilla, Siddipet, etc. There are ‘control points’ along the route to keep a check on the riders and their health,” says Krish Agarwal from Hyderabad Randonneurs. But the final medal’s the big motivation for the ride.
“Those who complete the ride — the full 600 kilometres — will get their specially-made medals made from the Audax Club Parisien in around six to eight months,” Krish says.
