Techies, children gear up for Daan Utsav in October
‘Daan Utsav’, will be observed from October 1
Chennai: To engage people from different walks of life in acts of ‘giving’ in the form of time, skill, cash and food to the underprivileged sections of the society, a one week festival of philanthropy, ‘Daan Utsav’, will be observed from October 1.
Children aged from three years onwards, entrepreneurs and IT professionals gathered at the Presidency Club on Thursday to share their views on how the ‘Joy of giving’ festival this time around will be a special occasion for all of them.
“This Daan Utsav we will be engaging close to 150 people from different companies and the public in various activities ranging from weeding to sowing in the farms. By engaging more people, especially from the IT sector, we want more professionals who are interested in agricultural activities to come forward and spend time during the weekends in the fields,” said T. Sunny, a software professional in a leading IT firm.
Euro-kids, a chain of preschools that have been participating in the festival for the last three years, will have around 4,000 children under the age of 5 and their family members contributing to society by thanking public servants.
“I have decided to give a ‘Thank-you’ card that I have painted and also some of my drawings to the auto-driver uncle and the police men near my house thanking them for being the guardians of the society,” said four-year-old K. Jithesh studying at a private school in Perambur.
The entire Euro-kids center will become a ‘Collection center’ from October 1 to 7 during which the members, the kids with their parents will donate various items such as stationeries, toys, books and vessels to these centres.
