Now, get LPG connection in 15 minutes!

Under Sahaj scheme, customers can register online and avoid paying hidden costs to agencies

Bengaluru: The Digital India initiative, launched by the prime minister, has now come in handy for city residents looking for a new domestic LPG connection. Acquiring a new domestic LPG connection was a big headache for city residents earlier as they were expected to submit several documents, which always led to a delay in releasing of the new connections.

Beside this, there were also complaints of demands for extra money from the agencies, which were shown as hidden costs. But all that could well be a thing of the past. From now on, those who want a new LPG connection need not worry about these delays.

As part of the Sahaj scheme launched by the union petroleum ministry, customers in the city can now register for new LPG connections online, and even make online payments for the same. Under this new initiative launched by the ministry in a few selected cities of the country, all the public sector oil firms are now releasing the new LPG connections online. Even though the registration link was announced as being available on mylpg.in, till now the link was not activated.

Now customers can register their names online and make payments on the individual websites of the oil firms. New customers can join the PAHAL (direct cash benefit transfer scheme) through this online registration by providing all the necessary documents.

Hassle-free experience

According to the customers, online registration is hassle-free and can be completed easily. “All we need is to get ready proof of identity and proof of address along with Aadhar and bank account details. The form consists of just two pages and can be filled within 10-15 minutes,” said Mr. Shrikantha Bhat, a resident of Malleshwaram who registered online with Hindustan Petroleum. “Earlier it was a big task with LPG dealers demanding a set of documents beside exorbitant money. But everything is fair and transparent here,” he said.

According to an officer from an oil firm, customers can register for both 14.2 kg and 5 kg cylinders online. “Digital platforms always receive appreciation from the customers as there is no question of any type of exploitation and excess money. With the launch of this scheme, right from registering for a new LPG connection to portability, everything can be done online,” he explained.
