Krishna Phase 3 may not be of use

The pumps will lift water in the dead storage — about 120 TMC ft — which can be utilised for months

Hyderabad: The commissioning of Krishna Phase 3 and Godavari will not help water supply this year as well. About 10 high-speed pumps have been procured under the Calamity Relief Fund and will be installed at Nagarjunasagar, if the water level drops below 505 feet as feared. On Thursday, the water level was 509.1 feet.

The pumps will lift water in the dead storage — about 120 TMC ft — which can be utilised for months. “If the water drops below 505 feet, the pumps will be installed as an emergency measure. Water can be drawn up to the 502-feet level,” a Water Board official said.

If the water level depletes below 502 feet, emergency high speed pumps can be erected at the foreshore at 500 feet level which will drawing water up to 490 feet level.

“This is feasible and can be executed in two months,” the officer said. The drawing of water from Nagarjunasagar may be restricted from 270 million gallons per day to 200 MGD.
