Chennai: The city police on Thursday conducted enquiries with teachers, management staff and classmates of the 14-year-old girl who committed suicide after being allegedly bullied by her classmates.
A resident of Muthamizh Nagar in Kodungaiyur, Karthika, a class X student, was found dead after hanging herself using a saree at home by her parents on Monday.
Her father Ravi, a bank employee, and mother Jayabharathi, a housewife, said five girls had bullied their daughter and that she was hit by a boy with a writing pad on their insistence last week.
The girl had not gone to school since Thursday and took leave on Monday. After Karthika told her mother about the incident Jayabharathi took up this issue with the school correspondent, T.S. Thiagarajan. He, in turn, enquired about it with the class teacher on the same day. The class teacher reportedly said he was not aware of any such incident, said a senior police officer privy to the investigation.
Before the school administration could proceed further the teenage girl ended her life, the police said.
