CBCF’s 10 pm act to clear Welcome Back

CBFC members made an exception and opened shutters at 10 pm to review

Welcome Back seems to have offered much drama to the Censor Board even before its release. The CBFC office was opened at 10 pm on Monday night i.e. August 31 to view the final print of the film. Why the night duty?

Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Pahlaj Nahlani tells us, “We had asked for a number of cuts when the film was shown to the examining committee on August 26.

After that we waited for the producers to come back to us with the cuts, but they did not until Monday. I had to request my board members to assemble all of a sudden. We opened our offices at 10 pm to view the final version and issue the certificate. Otherwise the release would have been delayed.”

Apparently, the post-production work and sound mixing of the film was delayed because director Anees Bazmee was on a protest of sorts for not getting his dues on time. Informs a source, “Out of the Rs 17 crore that Anees was promised, he was paid only 11 by producer Firoz Nadiadwala. Therefore Anees refused to work on the mixing until the balance was settled. They got to an understanding later and Anees completed his work, but the whole thing also went on to delay the Board’s approval.”
