Submit stash report by October 7: Supreme Court
Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Special Investigation Team on black money
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Special Investigation Team on black money, headed by former apex court judge M.B. Shah, to submit its fourth report by October 7.
A three-judge bench of Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice Madan Lokur and A.K. Sikri made this request after counsel Prashant Bhushan brought to the notice of the court newspaper reports that the SIT had issued recommendations to ban participatory notes (P-Notes) and whether the government had acted on the recommendation.
Senior counsel Dushyant Dave, appearing for the SIT informed the court that after the third report was submitted in May, no further report had been submitted. However, he said that the special investigation team would give its fourth report by October 7. The SIT in its meeting in July this year discussed about ‘P notes’ which are transferable in nature.
Declare stash stored in e-wallet too: Finance Minister
It is not just banks, people who have even stored untaxed money in e-wallets and virtual cards of websites hosted in foreign countries would need to declare it during the compliance window of new black money law. Failing to do so will make them liable to get prosecuted under the harsh provisions of the new law.
The finance ministry has come out with second set of 27 FAQs on voluntary disclosures to be made in the 90-day compliance window ending September 30. It also promised confidentiality of information furnished under the black money compliance window.
