Anirudh, Mukund, Umang too among runs as Moin-ud Dowlah kicks off

Hyderabad: T. Suman smashed an incredible double century to take hosts Hyderabad XI to an imposing 465 for 7 by stumps on the opening day of their match against Air India at the annual Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket tournament being played in the twin cities, on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, B. Anirudh’s patient 117 helped Hyderabad President’s XI to 290 against the Sri Lankan developmental side. In another match, Umang Sharma struck 106 for Food Corporation of India but his fine effort was undone by a brilliant 7 for 55 by MRF off-spinner Sundar Washington.
Elsewhere at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Abhinav Mukund’s 202-ball 158 (21x4, 1x6) helped India Cements post a commanding 352 in 85.1 overs against ONGC.
But the day belonged to Hyderabad XI, and Suman in particular. The dashing right-hander carted the ball all over the Gymkhana Grounds, smashing 20 boundaries and nine massive sixes as the hosts ran riot against an off-key Air India attack.
Captain G.H. Vihari (86), B. Sandeep (62) and A. Ashish Reddy (54) chipped in with useful contributions as Hyderabad reached 465 for 7 by the close of play. At DMRC-1, Anirudh consumed 185 deliveries for his century, sending the 14 balls to the fence and two over it. He received solid support from Himalay Agarwal (83) but the President’s XI failed to capitalise on it, posting a somewhat underwhelming 290 off 85.1 overs. For the Sri Lankan side, Vishwa Fernando was the pick of the bowlers, with 4 for 57.
