With over 5.5 lakh Indians visiting Switzerland so far this year, tourism officials have a reason to orient their strategy towards India. “Tourism from India has grown sharply this year. The increase is particularly strong in tier 2 and tier 3 cities in South India. The two tours will allow tourists to experience the best of Switzerland, from mountain excursions to scenic train journeys, at their own pace and as per their own preferences,” said Claudio Zemp, Director – India, Switzerland Tourism.
English is widely spoken in Switzerland. The Swiss are very friendly people and Indian food is easily available. “Hopefully, this will urge more Indians to visit our wonderful country,” Zemp expressed.
“Many Indians who visit their relatives in Switzerland prefer to stay in apartments and cook their vegetarian meals. This had led to a slump in hotel bookings…nevertheless, the market picked up and we are registering growth now,” said Ritu Sharma, Deputy Director, Switzerland Tourism, India. Speaking to reporters during a promotion campaign here on Wednesday, Sharma said individual travellers, youngsters and parents of Indians settled in Switzerland and MICE segment was the focus of the attention.
