Students continue stir at University of Hyderabad

They are continuing their protests against police presence on campus
Hyderabad: Students of the University of Hyderabad organised film screenings on Wednesday continuing their protests against police presence on campus. The film ‘Prisoners of Conscience’ by Anand Patwardhan on Wednesday was screened at the UoH campus. Students unions said the screenings were organised in the context of the continuing agitation of students and faculty of UoH against increasing police interference in campus and the high-handedness of the administration. About 400 students attended the screening.
University of Hyderabad Teachers’ Association President Prof. K. Laxminarayana spoke about the need for universities to be free from state and market control. He also said universities are supposed to be spaces of critical thinking, debates and discussions, and stated that the hegemonic coercive ruling class outfits, including BJP, are clamping down upon all such spaces of dissent in the name of ‘interest of the nation’. He urged students and teachers to be conscious of their responsibility of siding with the marginalised and questioning those in power, and expressed the solidarity of teachers to the students’ struggle for a police-free campus.
