Rajahmundry: Cops sift hay for needle man
Rajahmundry: Police are confident of nabbing the psychopath involved in attacking women and girls with a needle in rural areas in West Godavari very soon as they have vital clues.
The police registered as many as 11 cases in which 13 incidents of attack were reported in several parts in the district on August 22, 25 and 26 and since then, no fresh case of attack was reported except for false alarms of attacks and taking the suspects into custody and releasing them after verifying their credentials.
As part of the investigation into the case, the police gathered all the victims of attack at one place and inquired ab-out the features of the attacker.
Based on the feedback they had given, they got a portrait prepared by a student from fine arts for internal use They intended to hand over a copy of such a portrait to all the police personnel who are on the lookout for the accused.
However, some police personnel displayed the portrait on the notice board of Bhimavaram rural police station on Wednesday.
A section of media personnel who visited the police station on learning about a suspect taken into custody for questioning got the portrait and publicised it as a second sketch released by the police on the suspect.
The police maintain that they have never released any second portrait of the suspect and they got a portrait prepared for internal use.
They also say that the first sketch released officially was made based on the features given by one of the victims.
“We have got some vital clues about the attacker and we are going to nab him very soon. We have not released any second sketch of the suspect and we stand by the first one,” said P. Sowmya La-tha, Narasapuram DSP,
“However, we have got a portrait prepared based on features given by all the victims for our self use to help our personnel find the culprit without facing any difficulty to identify him.” the official added.
