Railway union threatens to step up agitation
The government is considering clubbing 44 different labour welfare Acts under four new Acts
Chennai: The Southern Railway Mazdoor Union has threatened an indefinite general strike if the Central government doesn’t react positively after Wednesday’s one-day strike, its general secretary N. Kanniah said. The government is considering clubbing 44 different labour welfare Acts under four new Acts. This could aggravate the industrial unrest situation, he said.
One year after announcing 100 per cent FDI in the railways, not one foreign company had come forward to invest in the railways, he pointed out. “The government is also forcing the Indian productivity council to convert ICF coach manufacturing into a public sector undertaking. Besides, the delay in implementing the seventh pay commission is eroding the confidence of employees,” Kanniah said.
“Only a direct assurance from the Prime Minister, like he did when withdrawing the Land Reforms Act, on the acceptance of our demands will create industrial peace in this country,” Kanniah said.
