Pakistan violates ceasefire in J&K's Poonch
Jammu: After a lull for few days, Pakistani troops violated ceasefire by resorting to small arms firing along the Line of Control in the frontier district of Poonch, prompting the Indian army to retaliate.
"The Pakistan army targeted Krishna Ghati sector of the LoC in Poonch district late Wednesday night. They resorted to small arms firing to which our troops responded appropriately and effectively," Jammu-based defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said on Thursday.
He said the ceasefire violation started at around 8 pm and continued till 10:30 pm on Wednesday night. There has been no report of any casualty.
On August 28, three civilians, including two women, were killed and 17 were injured as Pakistani troops pounded border areas of Jammu with heavy shelling and firing.
There had been 55 violations of the border ceasefire agreement by Pakistan in August and over 245 ceasefire violations in the year so far.
