Ola! Mobile call drops affect cabbie earnings
BENGALURU: Not able to get in touch with the Ola cab that you booked in advance? Blame it on the network and the snag in Ola App on the drivers' cell phones in the city!
It is not just putting the Ola customers in trouble, but the drivers too are now in a running battle with management to get their dues. C. Peter (name changed), a driver of Ola cab alleged that due to the poor network and call drops he is unable to receive calls from customers and is losing business.
On some occasions, the Ola App does not update the service offered to the main server, which leads to drivers losing trip service money as well as incentives. It takes days to claim these dues, he says. "On Tuesday, I attended to seven customers and the money credited was just Rs 163, as against my due of over Rs 1,600. That's Rs 800 for the service provided and Rs 800 as incentive. I will have to spend a whole day now to claim it from management," he said.
This is not a lone case. On any given day, at least 200 drivers are approaching Ola office to claim their dues. On Monday over 200 Ola cab drivers staged a protest in front of its Murugeshpalya office, demanding release of dues, he added. The agitators alleged that Ola was cheating both passengers as well as the crew in the name of offers.
In fact, it's the dramatic call drops by mobile telephone service providers that's actually responsible.
