PMK and Puthiya Thamilagam supported them
Chennai: Members of CPI (M), CPI and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi on Wednesday displayed placards opposing anti-labour laws and policies of the Centre in the Assembly in support of the nationwide strike of trade unions. Members of Congress, PMK and Puthiya Thamilagam supported them.
Soon after question hour, members of opposition parties demanded that a resolution be passed against the Centre in line with the demands of the nationwide stir by the unions. Left members along with MMK MLA caught the House by surprise when they stood up holding placards targeting the Central government even as the House was witnessing heated exchanged between DM K members and municipal administration minister S.P. Velumani over the issue of drinking water scarcity.
The placards carried slogans such as “do not cut subsidies of farmers”, “do not become an agent of corporates” and “take steps to control price rise”, Display of placards in the House did not go down well with Speaker P. Dhanapal. He told them it went against the rules of the House. They trooped out of the House along with MMK member Jawahirullah.
When they proceeded to stage a road roko, the police prevented them from marching out by lowering the check post at the outgate of the Fort St George. But the post accidentally hit Congress MLA S. Vijayadharani and CPI (M) member R. Annadurai. Later, Vijayadharani got herself admitted to a hospital.
