Anantapur: Inquiry into rape cover-up in schools
ANANTAPUR: The Andhra Pradesh government has ordered a health check-up of all girl students of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas across the state following reports of an attempted cover-up of a rape survivor delivering a girl child in one such school in Putlur.
The cover-up is believed to be one among other incidences of girls being exploited sexually and the sordid truth being kept under wraps in various state-run hostels and schools. In many cases, the truth comes out only after the survivors give birth or when they are 4-5 months pregnant.
As per the rules, the auxiliary nurse midwife of residential school has to submit a report on health condition of the girls, including their menstrual cycle, to the special officer of the school.
However, no official of the school noticed any physical changes in the Class X girl.
