Delhi: 14-year-old boy hangs self on his birthday
New Delhi: A 14-year-old boy committed suicide on Wednesday by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his maternal uncle's house in northwest Delhi, where he had come to celebrate his birthday, police said.
The boy, identified as Swamim, was a class IX student at a private school in Ghaziabad. His parents separated around nine years ago and he, along with his elder brother, lived at their maternal grandparents' house in Delhi's Welcome area, an officer said.
Swamim slept around 12 am and later around 1 am when one of his cousins woke up to drink water, he saw him hanging from the ceiling fan. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The matter was then reported to the police.
Apparently, Swamim was depressed over his parents' separation. His mother is based in Dubai, while his father owns a photo studio in Delhi.
Police have impounded Swamin's laptop and mobile phone for analysis. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
