From singing to acting
While singer Siddharth Menon had earlier turned down a lead role offered by V.K. Prakash, he had no qualms accepting the second offer
It is rare to see a singer gaining celebrity status from the beginning of his career. But Siddharth Menon of ‘Thaikudam Bridge’ music band managed to achieve that easily. And now Siddharth will begin a new career, as an actor, as he has been cast as the lead in V.K. Prakash’s upcoming film On The Rocks.
“My first call-up to the industry was also from V.K. Prakash Sir. It was for his previous movie Nirnayakam,” says Siddarth, who had not taken up the offer as he found the character to be too heavy for a newcomer like him
“One day, I was informed that VKP Sir was planning to cast me in the lead and called me for script discussion. Thus I met VKP sir and writers Bobby-Sanjay at a hotel here in Kochi and they narrated me the script. It was an acting-oriented role that would suit a trained actor. That is the factor which forced me to say no to that project,” says the singer adding that he would have had to cut his long hair if he had said yes. Though Siddharth had stood before the camera in connection with various television programmes, he was camera shy when he joined On The Rocks’ crew.
And he did get a second call from V.K. Prakash. “This time, I was called to enact the character Ananth Abraham in On The Rocks. This project is entirely different from the previous one.
It is the subject which attracted me, and of course the director,” he says, adding that producer P.K. Ratheesh had also wanted to rope him in for the film.
On The Rocks is a music-oriented subject. “It is an interesting story with music in the backdrop. I think it is too early to reveal more details about this film, but it can be called a musical rom-com. We can relate to the story as it is very realistic,” he says.
Though he had stood before the camera in connection with various television programmes, he was camera shy when he joined the film’s crew. “Apart from my TV programmes, I have acted in a music album too. But the factor which helped me reduce my camera fear was the acting camp led by Jayaparakash Kuloor sir at Bengaluru,” says the singer-turned-actor.
On the sets, for Siddharth, VKP is like a friend more than a senior director. “He is energetic as well as the coolest person who gives us all the support on the sets. We don’t feel like we are working with such a senior technician.” He has also sung three songs in the film, which were composed by Prashanth Pillai.
