Sri Lankan navy detains Tamil Nadu fishermen
Sri Lankan naval personnel secured 16 fishermen along with their 3 mechanised boats
Nagapattinam &Rameswaram: Sixteen fishermen of Akkaraipettai fishermen’s hamlet in Nagapattinam district, Kottaipatnam fishermen hamlet of Pudukkottai district, and four fishermen from Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district were secured by the Sri Lankan naval force, of charges of crossing the international maritime boundaries, south east off the Kodiayakarai shore in the early hours of Tuesday.
Sources at the fisheries department in Nagapattinam said that nine fishermen of Akkaraipettai fishermen’s hamlet in Nagapattinam district ventured into the sea along with other fishermen of their locality on Saturday.
They are Prakash (30), Vasanthakumar (30), Mathivanan (30), Prashad (28), Vinod (28), Moorthy (40), Rasu (31), Indirajit (32) and Perumal (33). The three fishermen of Kottaipatnam in Pudukkottai district were identified as C. Mariyasamuel (45) A.Sidhanandam (50) and S. Perumal (55). The four fishermen of Rameswaram were identified as P. Michel (360 and his brother Susairaj (33), D. Napolean (50 and A. Siyonraj (19)
According to sources, the Sri Lankan naval personnel secured 16 fishermen along with their 3 mechanised boats, brought to Gangesanthurai port and interrogated.
