Jayalalithaa intervention helps them get community certificates
The village comes under Srirangam Assembly constituency
Tiruchy: Villagers of Samuthiram near Manaparai in Tiruchy district, especially those belonging to the Kattunaicken community, which comes under the Scheduled Tribe category, and who were denied community certificates for the last three decades, are now jubilant after the direct intervention of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. The village comes under Srirangam Assembly constituency from where Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa was elected to the state assembly in the 2011 Assembly elections.
Since the Kattunaicken community people now settled at Samuthiram village, migrated from Andhra Pradesh at least three decades ago, they have been struggling for their community certificate as Scheduled Tribes, in vain. A beneficiary M.C.K Venkatesan hailing from Samuthiram village told DC that thanks to Ms Jayalalithaa’s kind gesture, the present student generation and youth belonging to the Kattunaicken community will benefit.
S.Jaisankar of the same village said whenever Ms Jayalalithaa came to Srirangam to participate in constituency functions in the past, they used to submit petitions to her, seeking her intervention. Now our dream has become a reality, and the entire Kattunaicken community residing in and around the village will be ever grateful to Amma, he added.
According to Tiruchy Collector K. S. Palanisamy, as per the orders of the CM, an inspection cell of the revenue department inspected the village, issued Scheduled Tribe certificates to 50 persons, and efforts would be made to provide a similar facility to the remaining eligible persons shortly.
