Jagan Mohan Reddy to fast for special status to Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday said that he would go on an indefinite fast from September 15 for special category status to AP.
Mr Reddy told reporters here that he would launch the fast in Guntur if AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu fails to exert pressure on the Centre and the special status is denied by September 15.
Mr Reddy said that the debate on the special status had meandered into obscurity with several and unnecessary interruptions and the ruling party took the issue lightly as it wants to “bury it”.
“Naidu has no intention to broach the subject or set a deadline,” Mr Reddy said. “Naidu has to set a deadline of one month for special status with the rider that TD will pull out of the coalition if the Centre fails to yield to the demand. However, the TD government has been charting a course to cover up its fallacies,” he said.
