Hyderabad: Man scoots with Harley Davidson on test ride
Hyderabad: A man sped off with a Rs 6-lakh Harley Davidson bike on Tuesday from a Banjara Hills showroom on the pretext of taking it for a test ride.
The showroom authorities have lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills police in the city.
The accused introduced himself as Tahir Ali, working for a software firm in Gachibowli and residing at an apartment in Jubilee hills. He came to the Harley Davidson Showroom at road No. 2 in Banjara Hills at around 2 pm on Tuesday.
After introducing himself, he gave them his mobile number and a copy of his driving license.
He chose to take a Street 750 model for a test drive and 500 metres from the showroom, zoomed off into traffic.
“He was talking in Hindi and looked studious. We assigned one of the staff to accompany him for a test drive. Our guy was ahead of him and could not spot him in the traffic,” said the showroom manager.
The staff waited for him to return, but when he did not return after more than an hour, they called on his mobile phone only to find that it was switched off.
Traffic closed circuit TV footage traced the accused riding towards Alwal via Begumpet.
“We found that he had filled petrol at a pump near Tumkunta. He even told the curious staffers at the petrol pump about the bike, its specialities and its mechanical specifications,” said Banjara Hills inspector P. Murali Krishna.
