Mulkanoor Coop Dairy registers steady growth

Karimnagar: The Mulukanoor Women’s Co-operative Dairy (MWCD), the country’s maiden dairy, set up and run by women, has been registering a steady growth since its inception.

For instance, the dairy posted net profits of Rs 12.51 lakh in 2014-15 fiscal as against Rs 10.86 lakh and Rs 9.20 lakh in 2013-14 and 2012-13 financial years, respectively, accor-ding to information provided by its management.

The women-oriented dairy was established by 72 co-operatives societies, comprising 3,600 women members, on the outskirts of Bheemad-evarapalli mandal headquarters, on the borders of Karimnagar-Wara-ngal, on August 17, 2002. Currently, the dairy has 127 societies also known as women dairy co-operatives (WDC) that contain over 20,000 members from 120 villages located in Karimnagar and Warangal districts. It caters to customers from Karimnagar, Warangal, Adilabad and Medak districts.

The ISO 9001:2008 certified dairy registered a net profit of barely Rs 17,000 in its initial financial year. Over a period of time, it displayed a significance performance.

“The dairy’s performance is substantially better than one’s expectations. We are now confident that we can tackle any tough situation,” explained Kadari Push-paleela, president of the dairy. Comparatively, we are paying higher price, Rs 2 per litre of milk and Rs 600 per kg fat to our farmers, she said.

Dairy uses german tech

The Mulukanoor Wom-en’s Co-operative Dairy (MWCD) is using German equipments and technology for manufacturing various dairy products to be launched soon. The dairy’s general manager M. Bhaskar Reddy said that they were relying on the foreign country’s technology in order to comply with guidelines of the Food Safety and Stand-ards Authority of India.

The dairy imported blast chillers, incubators and chillers from Germany at a cost of '70 lakh two months back to produce flavoured milk, Mysorepak and some other byproducts.
The byproducts are likely to be manufactured in a month.
