Woman dies on flight from Port Blair to Chennai

Woman’s body was secured and taken to the medical center inside the airport
Chennai: A 65-year-old woman from Andaman & Nicobar Islands died on board a domestic flight to Chennai on Monday. She was declared to have died of a cardiac arrest by the airport medical officer, airport sources said. The victim, Musthari Begum, accompanied by her elder son and his sister-in-law travelled from Port Blair to Chennai in a Go Air Flight.
“She was supposed to undergo treatment for diabetes at a hospital in Royapettah,” an airport official said. Around 12.30 pm, the aircraft landed at the Chennai domestic airport after which her son, Shakeer Baksh found her dead. The family members initially thought that she was deep asleep and tried waking her up, but after futile efforts alerted the cabin crew who infomed the medical staff.
The woman’s body was secured and taken to the medical center inside the airport and local police were informed. The body was shifted to a private hospital in Porur. “The deceased’s son initially gave a written statement that they do not prefer an autopsy after the airport medical officer certified that she had a natural death,” a police officer said.
However, on the advise of cops, the family agreed for the autopsy after which a case was registered and the body was sent for post mortem. The body is expected to be flown Tuesday back to Port Blair. Meanwhile, the flight which was expected to take off to Mumbai at 1.15 pm was delayed by another hour and a half due to incident.
