Five bodies of six tourists who died in the boat mishap have been recovered till now
Dharmapuri: Three more bodies of tourists from Chennai, who were among the six of a family who drowned in the Hogenakkal coracle tragedy on Sunday, were recovered in Karnataka on Monday. Five bodies of six tourists who died in the boat mishap have been recovered till now. Search is on for a 10-month-old who also drowned in the gushing Cauvery waters at Hogenakkal.
Six of a family drowned in Hogenakkal waters when the coracle in which they had take a joy ride near the waterfalls toppled around 1.50 p.m. on Sunday. The bodies of two of the six family members were recovered on Sunday. When the search operation resumed on Monday morning to trace the four other missing victims of a family, the rescuers found the body of 30-year-old Kokila, 60-year-old Krishnamurthy and his son Ranjit, 30, were fished out at Chengampadi in Karnataka near Palar in Mettur of Salem district, 13 km from Hogenakkal. The recovery was made following an alert by the local villagers.
CM orders action against those responsible
Condoling the coracle mishap in Hogenakkal in which six members of a family were drowned, CM Jayalalithaa Monday ordered police and district administration to take legal action against those responsible for the tragedy. She also announced a solatium of Rs 1 lakh each to the next of kin of the victims from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
“I have ordered the district administration and police to take legal action against those responsible,” she said in a statement here. “I have ordered the authorities to expedite the process of tracing the (remaining) bodies of two (an adult and a child) and bring them to Chennai,” she said adding, “I convey my condolences to the bereaved family.”
