Sailor asks Rs 25 lakh compensation over Son’s death
Kochi: A sailor has moved Kerala High Court against the Navy seeking compensation of Rs 25 lakh after his child drowned in a pit kept open at its residential complex in Fort Kochi.
The sailor's two-and-a-half-year-old son died on February 22 this year. S.T. Reddy, a native of Visakhapatnam currently attached to the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, and his wife Narayan-amma, moved the court.
The petitioner contended that their child Sai Akash drowned as drainage pit kept open near children's park on the premises of Mahavir Enclave, Fort Kochi.
The child, who came to the park with his father, went missing after 30 minutes. Later, he was found in the open drainage pit.
Though rushed to a hospital, he was declared dead. It is alleged in the petition that lethargic attitude on the part of government officials in maintaining pits near children's park caused the death.
