Nurses’ protest intensifies in Andhra Pradesh

B. Bhagyalakshmi said that the nurses were not responsible for the death

Guntur: Members of AP Government Nursing Association on Monday staged a protest at the Guntur Government General Hospital demanding the revocation of suspension orders issued to nursing staff of GGH. The orders were issued in the aftermath of the death of an infant due to rat bite. Defending the suspended nursing staff, president of AP Government Nursing Association, B. Bhagyalakshmi said that the nurses were not responsible for the death.

Ms Bhagyalakshmi said that suspended nurses were on Medico Legal Case duty during the incident and hence they cannot be held responsible for the death. She alleged that there is a shortage of nursing staff in government hospitals in AP and nurses are working under pressure. She demanded the government to fill the vacant staff nurse posts in state-run hospitals.

Later, the protesting nurses submitted a memorandum to collector Kantilal Dande demanding the revocation of suspension order. Ms Bhagyalakshmi said that nursing staff working in various government hospitals across the state staged an hour-long protest.
