Made an offer to India of sending Geeta along with Sartaj Aziz: Pakistan

Aziz was scheduled to travel to India on August 23 for the first-ever NSA-level discussions

New Delhi: Geeta, the deaf and mute Indian girl stuck in Pakistan for more than a decade, would have been in India had the Indo-Pak NSA-level talks not been cancelled.

Pakistan had made an offer to India of sending Geeta in a special plane along with its National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz when he was to come here to hold talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval on August 24.

"We had offered to send Geeta with Aziz as a goodwill gesture but there was no response from India," according to Pakistani official sources here.

Aziz was scheduled to travel to India on August 23 for the first-ever NSA-level discussions with Doval but Pakistan called off the talks just hours before Aziz's scheduled departure from Islamabad after India made it clear that discussions on Kashmir and his meeting with separatists are not be acceptable to it.

However, when asked there was no confirmation from the Indian side about the Pakistani offer on Geeta.
