Lack of paper stops Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation

Every day around 10-15 applications are submitted at corporation offices (zonal and circle office)

Hyderabad: Issuing of crucial Birth and Death certificates has come to a halt in the last few days as the state’s biggest municipal corporation is running short of paper.

But, prior to the stationery shortage problem, there has been a spat of complaints by citizens with regard to delay in issuing these certificates.

Every day around 10-15 applications are submitted at corporation offices, (zonal and circle office).

Sources in the GHMC confirmed that there has been a delay in issuing the two certificates, however, the major reason is not stationary shortage but submission of proper documents and verification by the staff.

The GHMC’s portal allows for registration of births and deaths and the certificates can be collected at eSeva centres.

According to GHMC officials, a certificate for a new birth or death can be obtained in a week, while a certificate for an existing record is given in three days. But instances of delay in obtaining these certificates abound in most of the zones.

The delay is thus forcing applicants to seek the help of brokers. A GHMC official clarified, “The municipal offices are issuing Birth and Death certificates to all the circle offices including citizen service centers. There is no pendency till today for lack of supply (of stationary). The offices are effectively managing the stock where stationery is short. Meanwhile within 15 days sufficient stock will be placed in all circle offices and citizen service centers.”
