Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University to offer 24x7 vet support

KVASU e-vet Connect will provide 24X7 services for the livestock owners, pet owners and other stakeholders

KOCHI: Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) will provide 24X7 veterinary services, including advisory and emergency services, from the first week of September.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and agriculture minister K.P. Mohanan will launch the project on September 7 at Thumburmuzhy, Chalakkudy, along with the launching of KVASU’s College of Food Technology.

Despite having its veterinary hospitals at Mannuthy, Kokkalai (Thrissur), Pookode and Meenangadi (Wayanad) and services provided by the veterinary hospitals attached to state animal husbandry department during the working time of these institutions, there is increasing demand from owners of large and small ruminants and pet animals for clinical services and advisories since they could not reach the experts timely in emergency situations.

“Moreover, facilities for availing the services of experts after regular working hours are less when compared to human health care. On many occasions, the farmers find it very difficult to reach an expert for emergency care and treatment at their doorstep immediately in crisis,” KVASU vice-chancellor Dr B. Ashok said.

“This is why KVASU has developed a unique model for veterinary connectivity across the state namely ‘KVASU e-vet connect’ using ICT applications that can be extended to other parts of the country in future,” said Dr Ashok.

“KVASU e-vet connect includes vet connect software for KVASU hospitals, e-vet connect centres, mobile veterinary services with mobile tracking system, advisory call centres and CRM, an e-vet connect knowledge portal, Vetipedia and the disease information system,” said director of entrepreneurship, KVASU, Dr T. P. Sethumadhavan.

KVASU e-vet Connect will provide 24X7 services for the livestock owners, pet owners and other stakeholders.

Moreover, it will help facilitate employment avenues for KVASU’s veterinary graduates and diploma holders.

Initially, the e-vet connect services will be established three assembly constituencies - Ollur, Thrissur and Kalpetta.

Keltron has already prepared the IUMS software for the university for the purpose. Dr C. B. Devanand is the implementing officer of e-vet connect. Owners can contact through e-vet connect call centre or on telephone 04872238055 or-evet portal www.ev-etconnect.org.

“The project can be extended to 53 blocks across the state where mobile veterinary services are available. e-vet connect can be linked with 25 entrepreneurship centres of MRCMPU for the benefit of dairy farmers of six Malabar districts,” said Dr B. Ashok.
