Home secretary appointment: It was my decision, says LC Goyal
This is the third instance of a top bureaucrat being shifted out in the past one year

New Delhi: Mr Rajiv Mehrishi took charge as home secretary on Monday, hours after Mr L.C. Goyal resigned. With Mr Mehrishi’s appointment, the home ministry under Rajnath Singh has got a third home secretary in less than two years of the NDA government coming to power at the Centre.
Mr Goyal’s departure comes amid reports of serious differences with home minister Rajnath Singh over his “style of functioning”, while he had repeated runins with the finance ministry and the national security adviser, the latest being over the Naga accord.

Mr Goyal, however, refused to attribute reasons for his sudden resignation, saying he didn’t want to continue for “personal reasons”. Late on Monday evening, Mr Goyal was appointed as the chairman of the relatively low-profile Indian Trade Promotion Organisation. “It was my own decision,” Mr Goyal said, adding that any other reason mentioned was “factually incorrect”.
This is the third instance of a top bureaucrat being shifted out in the past one year — after Sujatha Singh was sacked as foreign secretary in January and Anil Goswami removed as home secretary last year for “interfering” in a CBI probe on behalf of a Congress leader.
