Digvijay Singh's Warangal tour cancelled
Cancelled his plans owing to personal reasons
AICC general secretary and Telangana in-charge Digvijay Singh who was scheduled to visit the state on August 31 and September 1, cancelled his plans owing to personal reasons. He was supposed to take part in a round table conference on the state and Central government neglecting farmers and also another discussion regarding reservations for the minorities. Mr Singh said he had to rush to the US to look after his daughter who is ill and to get her treated, and hence he is not able to keep his plans of visiting Telangana.
However, the conferences will be conducted as scheduled. With the MP elections setting in on Warangal, the Congress is going all out to revive itself after the thrashing the party received in the general elections. The party held preparatory meetings earlier this month which saw many of the party bigwigs queuing up to Warangal. Mr Singh’s scheduled visit is also seen as one of their going-to-polls strategy. The party was expecting to work out their drawback and set themselves up for the polls under the guidance of someone like Mr Singh. But with Mr Singh cancelling his tour, the plans do look shattered at the moment but a bigger opportunity too is coming shortly in the form of AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Sources from within the party say that if all goes as planned, Mr Gandhi is more likely to visit Warangal on September 9.
While that surely would boost the morale of the party before they go into polls, it would be interesting to see how effective the party could get in garnering its lost vote bank in the upcoming elections.
