Bengaluru: Friends stab call centre staffer to death, 3 held
BENGALURU: A 22-year-old youngster was stabbed to death by a group of three friends in the early hours of Monday over a trivial row. The Rammurthynagar police arrested the three on charges of murdering Shashank Srinath, a call centre employee and a resident of Mangaluru.
The accused have been identified as Daniel, 19, studying an animation course, Ajay, 23, a shop owner and Vasu. They are all said to be residents of Hoysalanagar. The trio was arrested based on a complaint filed by Vishnu Unnikrishnan.
The police said that the incident took place next to Rammurthynagar junction a few metres ahead of the checkpoint where the night beat police were conducting a routine check around 3 am. The murder came to light after a commotion prevailed near the junction. The cops on duty rushed to the spot and found Shashank lying in a pool of blood. While the main accused fled the scene, the other two were detained by the cops.
“There were two groups of friends who were returning home after a get-together at Kasthurinagar. Shashank picked up a quarrel with Daniel, Vasu and Ajay and attacked them first which took an ugly turn and in the heat of the moment, Shahshank was stabbed to death,” said DCP East N. Sathish Kumar.
According to the police, Shashank, a resident of Mangaluru, came down to the city a few days ago to meet his friends. On Sunday night, the two groups consisting of six people met at a friend’s place in Kasthurinagar. While they were heading home, Shashank picked up a quarrel over a trivial issue with Daniel, Vasu and Ajay when they stopped midway for a smoke. Situation turned ugly when Shashank stopped the duo from smoking and in a fit of rage pushed Daniel. A heated argument ensued and the two groups of friends got involved in an altercation, following which Daniel stabbed Shashank.
A case has been registered in Rammurthynagar police station and the three accused have been booked under Sections 302, 323 r/w 34 of IPC.
