15 words censored from Welcome Back, including ‘saala’
The film’s team itself had cut it down to 153 minutes before submitting it to the censor board
Anees Bazmi’s Welcome Back has got a ‘U/A’ certificate from the Censor Board, after being subjected to 15 cuts in all. A source in the know says, “The original length of the film was 170 minutes. The film’s team itself had cut it down to 153 minutes before submitting it to the censor board.”
Turns out, the board still found several words objectionable and ordered 15 cuts in all. When contacted, Anees said, “The Censor Board has only asked for verbal cuts — words like saala have been asked to be deleted, which we’ve happily done. However, for some other cuts, we’re trying to explain the reason why those words are there. Every member of the board knows my films don’t have any double meanings or vulgar dialogues. So many cuts seem a little extreme.”
