Osmania University tech seats to stay vacant

The TSCHE is yet to submit a report in response to the government’s request

Hyderabad: No new admissions might be taken up to fill the vacant seats in Osmania and JNTU Hyderabad Colleges of Engineering. With time running out, internal sliding within the individual colleges is being considered as an option. This, however, will still keep the number of vacant seats in the government colleges the same as it is now.

As many as 285 prized seats in undergraduate and five-year engineering courses are vacant in government engineering colleges. The Telangana government has now asked the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) to submit a report on the pros and cons of filling the seats and the means to do it.

It was reported in these columns that about 267 undergrad engineering seats and 18 five-year integrated courses seats in premier government colleges like Osmania University College of Engineering and JNTU Hyderabad College of Engineering were vacant. This was due to students shifting to NITs through the spot round held in the third week of August.

The TSCHE is yet to submit a report in response to the government’s request. Osmania University College of Engineering has 48 vacant seats, out of which 10 are in Computer Science (CS) and eight are in Electronics and Communications. JNTU-H has 66 vacant seats out of which 15 are in CS and 10 in Electronics and Communication.
