INTUC calls coal strike on September 2

Coal miners are demanding a halt to the privatisation of PSUs

Karimnagar: Indian National Trade Union Congress president G. Sanjeeva Reddy called a nation-wide strike by coal mine workers on September 2. The coal miners are demanding a halt to the privatisation of PSUs and want contract employee to be paid on par with permanent staff.

He was speaking after a meeting of the SCCL Staff and Workers Union at Godavarikhani on Sunday. TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy was present at the meeting.

Mr Sanjeeva Reddy termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an “unskilled administrator” for privatising public sector undertakings which were paying thousands of crores through dividends.

He said Mr Modi was amending labour laws to favour corporate companies as a result of which PSU employees would lose their rights. On a lighter vein, he said Mr Modi should introduce contract system to appoint public representatives. He also said that Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was confining himself to making statements.
