Amid row, doctors group form panel

Set up 10 standing committees in different parts of the state on Sunday

Hyderabad: Despite a case pending in HC, a group of doctors led by Dr K. Shyam Sunder, claiming recognition from the Indian Medical Association, held meetings of the working committee and set up 10 standing committees in different parts of the state on Sunday.

Dr Gopal Kishan and Dr Dileep Bhanushali of the IMA have taken this group to court and a decision is pending.

Dr Shyam Sunder said, “I have been unanimously elected by all the active members of IMA. The other members have not been active for a long time and they have gone to court. I was elected in March and there was a need to set up a working committee and look into the problems of doctors.”

But Dr Yadgiri Rao, a former in-charge secretary of Telangana IMA, said, “The case is still pending in court. On March 16, Dr Sundar took charge illegally. These meetings are not valid. If IMA has granted recognition, it is not correct as the case is yet to be resolved.” The election of Dr Sunder was superseded by the HC and fresh elections were to be conducted. But that has not happened.

Dr Gopal Kishan, along with government and doctors, had a huge meeting in July demanding that the state IMA be formed soon. Dr Kishan says, “The IMA is not listening to us. They are going ahead with the group that is claiming to be elected.”

Due to the dispute, Dr Yadgiri Rao has not handed over charge to anybody in IMA. He said, "I will adhere to the order of the court. Till then, formation of any committees are not acceptable."
